What educators are saying

This was a good practice activity for a new concept we had addressed in class but hadn't had a lot of practice with yet.

Description

These engaging and easy-to-use Commas, Semi-Colons, and Colons units can be used with 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th-grade students, as well as with English Language Learners. I have used it to initially teach, as well as review commas, semi-colons, and colons. Each punctuation lesson can be used separately if desired.

I have added a semi-colon pattern sheet and three worksheets that can be used on an overhead or printed out and copied. The pattern sheet and worksheets are separate from the PowerPoint presentation. In addition to the pattern sheet, there is a total of 21 sentences and one paragraph. Also included are instructions for using the worksheets and answer keys. The pattern sheet, sentences, and paragraphs are also included as a pdf file.

Following each "Now, you try it" is an answer key to check for understanding and reteach a concept, if necessary. I have had a great deal of success with this lesson, even with adults.

I have used "Now, you try it" in different ways.

1. With individual whiteboards to check for understanding.

2. As a quiz with each student writing on paper.

3. In groups, either using whiteboards or paper.

4. Individually, as an Easel Assessment.

This is also included in my 11 Punctuation and Capitalization Bundle.
