What educators are saying

This was such a fun collaborative project for my kids to work on right before break. They were very engaged and it required them to really think about spending which put decimals in perspective. Would recommend!
Students enjoyed creating their tacky sweaters and shared lots of laughs while they tried to create the tackiest within the budget!

Description

Ugly Christmas Sweater/Tacky Christmas Sweater Project is a fun way to practice math subtracting decimals skills! Students will purchase a paper sweater and items to place on the sweater. They keep a total of their purchases and make sure to stay under budget!

Skills Needed: Adding and Subtracting Decimals (students that can multiply decimals could use that skill in this project, but it isn't required)

A parent letter is included so you can keep parents informed of this exciting math project happening in your room!

Since students finish this activity at different times, I included a SELF-CHECKING Easel Activity about adding/subtracting decimals with Tacky Sweaters that you can assign to any early finishers!

THREE versions of this same activity in US dollars are included so you can choose which budget you prefer for your students and your class time!!! (If you teach younger than 4th grade, you could still use this product by using one of these other versions that allows you to fill in your own amounts that work best for your younger students.)

The fourth version is in British Pounds Sterling per request of a teacher who needed that currency! The 5th version is in AUS Dollars per request of a teacher who needed that currency! If you need this activity in your currency, message me through my Q & A and I will try to create it for you!

What makes this activity different than other Christmas products on TpT?

✔ it lets students color (and you know they love that!)

✔ they work in teams

✔ they WANT to get every bit of their math correct in order to buy as much stuff as possible for their sweater

✔ includes a letter to parents so you can keep parents informed of this exciting activity happening in your classroom (We need to let parents know about awesome things we are doing in our class!!!)

✔ includes a self-checking EASEL activity with a Tacky Sweater theme for those early finishers

✔ over 500 ratings can't be wrong---this is definitely TEACHER TESTED AND TEACHER APPROVED!!!
