What educators are saying

Very engaging!! I students loved putting these together. We had our own butterfly garden in class, watched videos about the life cycle, and used this resourse as a final project.
This was a great introduction to researching. They loved the fact that the life cycles could spin using a brad.

Description

Are your students learning about the life cycle of a butterfly? This no-prep research project guides students through the butterfly life cycle. Students will research the life of a butterfly, take notes, and publish a report. This project works well as an independent project or group work and easily integrates science, the reading of nonfiction texts, research, and informational writing. It is a great supplement to your insects science unit. Students use the images of an egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly to help guide them through their research.

Included in the download:

  • a list of recommended resources for teachers
  • butterfly life cycle word wall cards
  • butterfly life cycle graphic organizer for students to label
  • note taking sheets with writing prompts
  • publishing pages in the fan format
  • complete answer keys

This project is ideal for:

  • note taking practice
  • introducing research
  • for center work
  • fast finishers
  • independent projects
  • as a supplement to your science unit on life cycles and insects

Students will:

  • Take notes on each stage of the life cycle
  • Transfer answers to fan pages
  • Cut and paste labels onto fan pages
  • Color the egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly
  • Cut out the fans
  • Attach with a metal brad

When complete, students can fan the project into a circular shape to represent the never-ending butterfly life cycle. Students now have an interactive project to take-home or a beautiful bulletin board display.
