What educators are saying
Description
Students will begin the lesson with the "Pre-Viewing" research sheet. This worksheet prompts them to choose from a short list of social issues and then research that issue. They will discuss current events and problems going on surrounding this issue.
Students will then use the Viewing Guide to answer the questions as they view. Some are simple comprehension questions and some urge them to think of the political agenda and symbolism behind they characters and events in the movie.
After the movie, students will read an excerpt from Psychology Today where one author explains some of the backstory and symbolism to this comic. Then students will use the graphic organizer to cite examples of each of the four social issues that appeared in the movie, either through events or characters.
Last, students will answer the response questions where they will cite textual examples as well as examples they saw for themselves in the movie.
And feel free to check out any of my other movie guides to spark discussion on history and social issues!
