Description

This is an educational worksheet students can complete in December. Students read five passages related to December holidays. They must determine whether the author's purpose is to persuade, inform, entertain, explain, or describe. This worksheet uses the more advanced PIE'ED version of author's purpose. Students are also asked to analyze WHAT the author is trying to explain, persuade, etc.

********This resource is available in three formats:

  1. Traditional Printables- Print the PDF and distribute the pencil-and-paper worksheet.
  2. Easel Activity- With this paperless format, an interactive layer has been added to the original PDF! Students can complete this activity on a device. Students read each passage and then type the author's purpose in the answer box.
  3. Easel Assessment- Students complete this self-grading quiz on a device, as well. After reading a passage, students select the author's purpose from a list of four possible answer choices. With this option, the teacher chooses whether or not his or her students receive immediate feedback.
