Description

Sustainability consists of practices using renewable natural resources, while taking caution not to deplete or damage the resources in the process of sustaining existence. Sustainable Design then is the approach to creating products and settings that promote that practice. The importance of sustainability in design cannot be emphasized enough. With all the environmental issues that we face in our society today, if we don’t take the bull by the horn and work as a whole to fight these issues, our natural resources could become depleted.

Future designers need to be aware of these issues in order to research and develop alternatives to protect our natural resources. Educating the students first on the issues we are facing, from the lack of renewable fuel and energy use to the diminishing forests is extremely important. The goal is that by studying sustainability, students will understand how all of these issues are related.
