Description

Do you need materials to teach A Long Walk to Water to your grade 5 6 7 students? This novel study will give students background information on Sudan, Africa and teach about Salva and Nya. Students will use the prereading activities, guided reading packet, review game, assessments, graphic organizers, rubrics, and answer keys to better understand this beautiful story about perseverance and hope.

⭐️⭐⭐️⭐️⭐️ "I used this resource within a homeschool tutorial setting. I handed out the questions, so students had guidance reading each week at home. The tabbed booklet identified and compared the two main characters of key use. The booklet provides a writing prompt for a short theme. My 6th grade students of varying writing and reading levels enjoyed completing the booklet, which also generated excellent classroom discussion. The rubric was successfully used in class for a peer review of the rough draft to assess the "quality" of students writing and a checklist of required elements. Thank you for a resource that provides an excellent culminating product for this book." - Carolyn, 6th grade teacher

  • This unit study is exactly what I was looking for to partner with my students' reading of A Long Walk to Water! I want to do a research focus along with the novel, but this unit covers many literary standards and integrates literary writing seamlessly. Just the novel study would be enough to purchase this bundle, but the WebQuest, flipbook, and trash-ket ball review went way above my expectations. Thank you so much for sharing this!
  • This is a great comprehensive resource for your class novel study or independent work. Kristin is wonderful to work with and was quick to respond to a couple of issues I had. The digital materials are easy to find and simple to assign in Google Classroom. I used her chapter questions, chapter quizzes, WebQuest, and the supplemental resources for "My Great Grandmother's Gourd." Well-done!
  • I am homeschooling my 5th grader and picked out this book to read as we begin school. I was happy to find this packet to go along with the book - which we will be reading together, versus the suggested independent reading. I like that this packet provides background info before starting the reading. Great resource for home or a classroom! Thank you!
  • This is a great resource. I love that many questions require thought and not just a simple one-word answer. Thank you!
  • My students enjoyed reading the thorough background on South Sudan. Thank you for including this for them to do before they start reading.
