Students create a physical or digital comic book explaining one math concept they have learned this year to a lower grade student. Since I teach seventh grade, my students have to explain the concept to third graders. This project can be modified for any subject or grade level. It can be used as an end of unit assignment, end of term or end of year.

Students will determine 10 of their bucket-list vacation destinations. They will use their knowledge of map scales and proportions to determine the actual distance between locations and the total distance of their trip. This distance learning or independent project includes 1. Student instructions2. Grading rubric3. Teacher tips and instructions. This straightforward project can be used anytime students have to memorize facts. Simply combine the project with quizzes on the facts students are learning. I have not included quizzes because this project could cover any facts from basic addition facts, multiplication tables, perfect squares, theorems, formulas, definitions, etc.

Math in Focus Assessment Rubric
This rubric allows more flexible grading for students taking Math in Focus assessments. You grade the assessments two ways: number of points out of 25 based on the MIF way, and based on question difficulty.
This rubric allows you to also give personal feedback regarding the student's progress based on what they "can do", "are still learning to do", "what you as a teacher plan to do", and "what parents can do to help at home".
