Glory by John Legend and Common Lyric/Poetry Analysis
This file includes the lyrics to the song "Glory" from the movie Selma. It includes 14 short answer critical thinking questions. This is one of my favorite activities for a poetry unit, and ties in beautifully to the Civil Rights Movement and social justice.

A Ram Sam Sam
This product teaches the folk song, "A Ram Sam Sam". The lesson focuses on rhythm, adds 3 separate rhythmic ostinatos with suggestions for percussion instruments to accompany them, and shows movements for students to add as they sing. It's a fun lesson for either in school or virtual learning. ENJOY!

Syncopated accompaniment supports the musical greetings in the text.
Great song for an ice breaker.
Add maracas, shekere, or other shakers for an authentic sound.
Hand claps add to the rhythmic interest, but any instrument may be substituted for hand claps such as rhythm sticks, tambourine, wood block, etc.

This Song of the Day (SOTD) is designed to be used in a Civil War/Reconstruction lesson. It asks students to explore the cultural context in which the song is song, and gives students the chance to discover the background of the song.
