Change Sings

I love Amanda Gorman's poetry and couldn't wait to get this book. I've written a little song to go with it and added some Orff instruments. I suggest you find some un-pitched percussion to add to it, maybe egg shakers, maracas, claves or giro, or small hand drums on the beat. It would also be great with ukuleles - only needed the chords F and C. I usually teach the song first, read the book with the song (I usually sing as I turn each page), then teach the instrument parts and put them toge

Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Sleigh! by Mo Willem

Here's a fun book and song for your kids! I purposely made the instrumentation sound a bit like Jingle Bells. There is only one measure where they change, and they will need to practice that, but it shouldn't be too difficult. Remember to add a Hey! at the end on beat four!

A Christmas Carol: A Play Told in Six Scenes

This wonderful story written by Charles Dickens is a must for students and teachers looking for a fun and simple dramatic reading or a staged production to share with the school or family and friends. Adapted for the stage by Carol J. Macy. Dickens has an important message about kindness and caring verses striving for material wealth. Each scene asks for only minimal props and costume pieces. Victorian Christmas music can be uploaded online or purchased on a CD. Students will LOVE acting ou

Squeak, Rumble, Whomp, Whomp, Whomp by Wynton Marsalis

This is a fun one! I did not add percussion instruments because each of us has different instruments in our classroom. I would add something that "squeaks" when we sing "Squeak" and something that "rumbles" when we sing "Rumble" and some kind of drum for Whomp, Whomp, Whomp. I would use a Tick Tock for that "Tick, Tock" and maybe a clave or woodblock for "Clack" and a bass drum for "Boom Boom". You can obviously add other instruments as well. Have fun with it.

PANDORA'S BOX: A Play for Grades 3rd-8th

This adaptation of the Greek Myth, Pandora's Box, is a delightful way to introduce your students to the fun of using their own words and actions to respond to the narration and stage directions in the play. In this way, teachers can create an authentic performance where students do not need to memorize lines, but can improvise with their words and actions throughout the play. This lesson includes a warm-up exercise that will help students to improvise in a scene, using their own words. The na

Commotion in the Ocean

I realized that I had written a song, but never went back to write instrument parts, so here they are. I would maybe add an ocean drum for the sound of the ocean, and let the student choose some instruments to represent the animals in the ocean as sound effects.

Published by Farrar, Strauss and Giroux. My students love the Pout Pout Fish and here's another great one about traveling.Mallets 1 are the glockenspiel, Mallets 2 are the xylophones, Mallets 3 are the bass xylophones. You can always substitute. You can also add sound effects for the story, such as the ocean drum. I teach the song first, then the instrument parts on body percussion, then put it all together.

Another great book by Anexandra Penfold and Suzanne Kaufman. I added Orff instruments, but you can add any small percussion that you like, so you can get more students playing instruments.

Aliens Love Dinopants by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort. Published by Scholastic. My students LOVE all the underpants books and we have such fun with them.Mallets 1 are the glockenspiels, Mallets 2 are the alto xylophones, and Mallets 3 are the bass xylophones. Substitutions always work great. I usually add some sound effects - something like vibraslaps or flexatone for when we sing "aliens" and something like finger cymbals for when we sing "underpants". Anything you add makes it fun for the

Pig the Monster

A new Pig the Pug book just in time for Halloween! I've added xylophones and glockenspiel. Add some non-pitched percussion to it, such as shaker eggs, guiro, vibraslap. Anything for a spooky and silly sound, because we all know Pig is a silly guy! Also, yell Boo! at the very end.
