I have been teaching secondary English and Journalism classes for over two decades. I teach a variety of subjects and grade levels, and have worked to create lessons to not only engage my students, but to stay with them once they leave my classroom.
I try to entice my students to get into a topic, and then before they know it, they're learning something! I am not a worksheet kind of teacher (in the sense that I give them one and then sit at my desk). I love hands-on, and I love finding new things to enhance the lessons I already have.
I am a fellow of the Bluegrass Writing Project and served as technology liaison for two years. I am also a teacher consultant and lead PD sessions on a variety of topics. I have been nominated as Kentucky Teacher of the Year four times, and the school newspaper I advise is one of the best in our state!! I won Media Adviser of the Year in Kentucky in 2014. I am a teacher leader and am often asked to mentor young teachers in the district. I love it!
I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Masters in Secondary English Education in 2001. I am working on my National Board Certification, and I am an adjunct professor at our local community college, I teach dual credit English to seniors at my high school.
