I have a PASSION for improving students' writing! Quick writes are my jam, and no, I do not just use that time as filler or to do grading! I write right alongside them! It has transformed their writing! But more on that later. Here's the boring experience stuff: * 12+ years of experience teaching 8th grade English * 4 years teaching 7th grade courses * Other experiences include: 9th grade English as well as remedial reading for a small group of 11th graders and four summer school experiences with fourth and fifth grade students I have my masters in Library Science and look forward to one day bringing my experience to a school library!
I believe that learning should be student-centered! I believe in greeting students with a smile! I believe in engaging reluctant readers through reader's theaters! I believe in drumming up excitement for reading in fun ways (hosting a fashion show, cooking competition, or a "blind date a book" promotion) I believe in read alouds, funny voices, and costumes to go with the story. I believe in one-on-one mentoring of at-risk students. I believe in reaching out to teachers to collaborate with them. I believe in creating stations, geocaching to enliven test review, and games, games, games for these gamer students! I believe in technology integration. Let's teach together!
