TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have worked for six fabulous years at a highly-impacted Title I School in the inner-city. At our school, we have the unique privilege of serving children living in the city's family homeless shelter. I have learned that my classroom may be the only safe place for my students. I have learned the absolute necessity of thoughtful scaffolding to ensure student success and growth. I also understand the need for differentiated instruction and subject integration. I get to bring my love and passion for horses and my rural lifestyle to my students (which usually includes an annual field trip to the actual Dimond Ranch!).

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in constructivist teaching, where students are given the scaffolding and support to build their own learning and schema. I know the importance of instilling a deep love of reading, which will then provide the catalyst for high-quality, authentic writing. Real-world connections drive student engagement and buy-in. Underlying all of the skills I teach, the greatest content of all – is the developing and maintaining of character. Through historical events, scientific wonders, and the art of language I strive to teach students the art of being good human beings.
