I'm starting my 11th year in teaching middle school and I could not love this age group more! I have taught every core subject there is, and even spent some time teaching physical education and being an athletic director. Currently, I teach English Language Arts and I'm completely hooked on giving my students deep and meaningful experiences through all sorts of texts. I love the energy and excitement that middle schoolers bring everyday.
Middle Schoolers are capable of so much and I work hard so that my classroom is set up just for them and their development. I value student choice, meaningful work, and teaching my students the keys to being a community. My students want to have fun, but they also want to be taken seriously and be respected for their depth of thinking. I love challenging my students and hopefully you'll see both fun and depth in these materials. I teach in workshop style, giving students a lot of time to practice, refine their skills, and grow right in front of me!
The awards I'm most proud of are the handwritten cards from students at the end of the year. My favorite one from this year: "Mrs. Fink - thanks so much for teaching me this year. I have grown so much as a reader and writer. I also love how much you talk about Chipotle."
Undergraduate Degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Middle School Science Master's Degree in Educational Leadership
After school, I rush home to see my 2-year old daughter Georgia. She's spunky and full of life and teaches me a lot!
