This is my fourth year teaching Italian! I began teaching at a high school and switched to middle school after my first year. I love that most of my students have never taken Italian before and start fresh with my class. It is so fun watching how much they learn.
With a push towards proficiency in my district (and generally nationwide), I try to get my students speaking Italian in class as much as possible. We do many interpersonal speaking activities, such as interviews and skits, so that students feel comfortable speaking the language from Day One. I also think it's important to scaffold and differentiate learning for my students, so I do include grammar concepts and worksheets in some of my lessons as well. You can find lesson plans, worksheets, slideshows, skit prompts, reading comprehension activities, and more in my TPT store.
