I taught middle school for 9 years in the inner city. I taught 7th grade math and Algebra for 2 years in a well-to-do suburb of a big city. I was a math specialist for 3 years in a small rural community. I worked in an alternative high school as a math specialist for a year.
I am all about hands-on! Sometimes math can be boring, and if I'm bored teaching it, the kids are certainly bored learning it. I love manipulatives and group work, but I hold each child accountable for his/her own learning.
I became National Board Certified in Middle School Mathematics in 2002. I won the Milken Award in 2004. I published an article in the NCTM journal Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School. I have presented at numerous local, state and national conferences.
Undergraduate work: Northwestern University Masters: California State University at Dominguez Hills
I speak Spanish, and have taught in a "bilngual" classroom for 9 years. I hold a California BCLAD credential. I am working on learning German!
