Helping Kids Shine

I have been passionate about teaching since high school when I worked as a gymnastics coach and swimming instructor. I was fortunate to get an job as an elementary school teacher right out of university and have now taught for 15 years. I'm currently teaching grades 4-6 students in a wonderful country school. I enjoy doing fun projects that my students will remember years from now. I do inquiry based activities and I love incorporating games when possible. Bucket filling, mindfulness, growth mindset and inspiring stories are all very important components of my classroom program.

The biggest reward for me is receiving a handmade card or note from a student thanking me for helping, encouraging them and/or teaching them. A special day I will always remember was the first day of school at my current school (my first day of my second year at that school) and students ran up to me and hugged me when they found out I was going to be their teacher for the year. Later that day at our welcome assembly, the principal went around the gym introducing each staff member and when I was introduced, the students started clapping and cheering. Being recognized by students is the biggest compliment for me since they are the reason I became a teacher in the first place.

I have a Math/Science Degree as well as an Education Degree. I also have a Specialist in Special Education and in Computers & Technology. I love learning and I am always interested in learning something new.
