I have been a teacher for over 20 years. My background is in Special Education and I also enjoy working with English Language Learners. I started my career teaching Pre-K and Kindergarten. Over the years, I have worked with students in grades K-12. I also taught at the university level for 14 years. In 2015, I opened a school for students with learning differences. With experience in public, private, and parochial schools in both urban and rural settings, I try to use my experience to create resources that are useful in my classroom - and yours - to make learning interactive but not prep-heavy.
My teaching philosophy is to build on student's strengths, to use multi-modal learning, to provide sensory activities, and to differentiate teaching based on each student's needs. I enjoy creating curriculum that is hands-on and fun! The more engaged students are, the more they retain. I typically use explicit teaching followed by guided and independent practice and then project based learning to apply and reinforce the knowledge.
