Hi! I have been teaching English Language, English Literature, Drama and Media Studies in the UK to ages 11-18 for six years and also have experience of teaching higher education, specifically to adults aiming to strengthen their English skills in order to access university level education. During this time I have taken on the role of an English Co-ordinator. As part of my role, I was responsible for creating units of work for a wide age and ability range, covering both literature and language. I have also been the director of a highly successful school theatre group, producing shows including original showcases and modern interpretations of Shakespearean classics. As well as currently teaching both English Language and English Literature to students between the ages of 11 and 16, I have acted as Head of Media Studies since 2014. I also work as an examiner for the UK's most popular exam board, AQA.
I believe that the emphasis should always be upon fun, challenge and creativity in the classroom. Nurturing students' independence and exposing them to a wide range of learning styles and texts is the key to excellent progress! Furthermore, a teacher really must feel enthusiastic about what they're teaching in order to inspire their students! It is also important that the resources you use in the classroom are detailed and demonstrate a labour of love so that you build a strong, positive rapport with every student who walks through your door. If they can see how much you've put into it, you can bet that they'll reciprocate!
