CHEMISTRY PHYSICS ENGINEERING OH MY

After teaching for many years, I realized my true passion is my students. I had been teaching all levels of chemistry from co-taught to Advanced Placement. One year, some of my students had 3 different teachers in one of the engineering pathway classes. That summer, I went and got certified to teach that class. A few years later, the gifted students were being left behind. At this time, my school began running an accelerated Physics/Chemistry course. The students learn a year of Chemistry and Physics in just one school year. This is when I began teaching physics. I share this because it is not the norm for someone to be qualified in all of these subjects. But if the love for the kids is there, you can make anything happen.

I firmly believe that students need to DO IT to learn best. My students are always up and doing something. Ok, so there are times that we need to get the details into our notebooks. But learning should be fun in this generation of instant gratification.

When I was growing up, I had no idea that I would be a teacher. Let alone a science teacher. In high school, I was one of those kids that "hated" science. During my senior year, I tutored my bestie through chemistry. My idea of being an accountant quickly changed when my mom asked me, "Could you sit in an office all day?" Hmmm...what to do? I remembered that I actually enjoyed that chemistry class. So, I decided to major in chemistry. This quickly became chemistry education.
