Analyzing Persuasive Techniques in Gun Control Articles with Opposing Viewpoints
This assignment asks students to analyze the persuasive techniques in two articles about gun control, then make a decision about which author is more effective.
I use this activity to help students better understand the techniques used by opinion writers and to introduce them to the techniques they will need to use in their own persuasive essays.
These are great mentor texts to help students with the Texas English II EOC persuasive writing essay assignment.

Jake Drake: Know-It-All by Andrew Clements is a great book for third or fourth graders. I used it as a class read aloud (all my students got a copy) and these are the comprehension questions I used for it. They are simple, about 3 questions per chapter (and the chapters are short)I included an answer key!

Characterization and Imagery Using Despereaux
I used excerpts from The Tale of Despereaux in hopes it will inspire scholars to read the entire story. The main focus of these excerpts is to focus on characterization and imagery. Scholars look at descriptive words and form a picture in their mind. This can be a whole group worksheet or independent depending on your scholars.This includes two different parts.
