Students conduct an activity to determine the most effective way to control noise using shoe boxes and sound-absorbing materials. In groups, students will use one of 8 materials assigned by the teacher to sound-proof the inside of a shoebox. They will place a timer inside the box and test how far away the ringing can be heard, record the results, and then graph the data gathered. National Science Education Standards: A, B, E, F & G

Introduction to gravity's effect on weight. This short lab allows students to make their own connections between weight and mass, as well as, the mass of an object is proportional to its gravitational pull. MS-ESS2-4 Develop a model to describe the cycling of water through Earth's systems driven by energy from the sun and the force of gravity.MS-PS2-4. Construct and present arguments using evidence to support the claim that gravitational interactions are attractive and depend on the masses of in

A story linking Science and Literacy. Forcythe is a clown who wants to be a star in the circus. As he considers the different acts he could try the story lends itself to discussion about various forces such as gravity, air resistance and friction. At the end of the story Forcythe realises that making children happy is the way he shines light in people's lives. There is a free air resistance worksheet that links well with Forcythe's baggy pants slowing his fall! Also the activity on 'Centre of Gr

Distribute daily starter to students on Monday. Students will complete the assignment during the first 10 min of class on a daily basis, Monday –Thursday. This is optional but in my classroom each daily assignment is worth 25 points to be added for a final grade on Friday. This is an amazing classroom management tool and allows you time to post attendance and check/pick up homework. Students have an assignment as soon as they walk in to the classroom.
