Kindergarten theme activity for unit on Presidents. I began by reading Martha Brenner's 'Abe Lincoln's Hat' and then asked the students what important things they would want to keep in a tall hat like Lincoln's. The students wrote a sentence about what they would keep and drew an illustration on the inside of the image of the hat.

After learning about Famous Americans during Social Studies, students can "vote" for which American or President is their favorite. Students can choose either George Washington, Betsy Ross, Barack Obama, or Abraham Lincoln by putting their name or picture on the appropriate column on a pocket chart. When the whole class has voted, students use the worksheet provided to create a bar graph of class data. Students also write the class results in tally marks, as well as using standard numerals. S

Use for President's Day lesson or a unit on money. This coin match contains images/descriptive words for the US penny, nickle, dime, and quarter. Laminate and cut out to use on a felt board or small group/individual activity.
