Samurai, Myth & Fact: Medieval Japanese History, Literature, and Philosophy
This lesson guides students in investigating and discussing the concept of Samurai. Students will learn who the Samurai were, will contrast Samurai to European knights, will enumerate and examine the values attributed to the Samurai and discuss the connections of these values to philosophies including Bushido, Buddhism, and Confucianism, and will consider contemporary understanding of Samurai in light of cultural developments in Japan.
