The Game of Evolution--Creature features Will You Survive?
This evolution activity is great as an introduction to evolution or a fun game at any time during your evolution unit.1) It has fun traits for your students to choose from and2) the game cards allow your students' "creatures" to survive and reproduce or possibly go extinct. Extinction forces students to "take on" the traits of surviving creatures.Can be used as a whole class activity with one set of cards or make group sets and let groups "play the game of life"!
Potato osmosis - experiment
The experiment shows the principles of osmosis, with potato slices incubated in water and in salt solutions. It is a reliable way to obtain meaningful results. With students working in pairs, the class results provide a good opportunity to discuss a need for multiple trials, experimental error, and experimental variables.Incubation needs to take at least 3 hours for apparent results, but overnight incubation works well.
