"Take Me Out of the Bathtub and Other Silly Dilly Songs" by Alan Katz

My music students love these silly songs. Who doesn't want to sing about stinky diapers? This resource is fantastic for an old fashioned (twisted) sing-a-long, starting out the school year with laughter, or for your "HELP I need a MUSIC SUB plan! I have created an entire MP3 accompaniment for all of the songs in "Take Me Out of the Bathtub and Other Silly Dilly Songs" by Alan Katz. They are in singable ranges, in simple piano arrangements with the flute doubling as the vocal track. The music

This is an ingenious audio sketch in which a flustered director is casting for a reading of Jabberwocky with the most random candidates possible. Each participant steps forward to read his stanza in awkward, silly and entertaining styles. By the end, we hear the full performance with each speaker giving his all for the crowd. The vocals are unusual and filled with aural hooks and references for the auditory learned to seize upon, enjoy and connect. The nearly 13 minutes goes through the entir

Intro: Pledge of Allegiance America, The Beautiful Lyrics by Katharine Lee Bates - 1913 O beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plain! America! America! God shed His grace on thee, And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea! O beautiful for pilgrim feet, Whose stern impassion'd stress A thoroughfare for freedom beat Across the wilderness! America! America! God mend thine ev'ry flaw, Confirm thy soul in self-co

A companion to the "JabberAuditions" recording (also available on this store), this is the section of the final performance of the several "actors." It runs 2:38 and is a great tool to distribute to your scholars who are learning the poem. They can load it onto their devices and listen repeatedly. The speakers in the recording are weird and funny and their speech has a great many "hooks" and textures for your auditory learners to use as they adopt the poem into their minds.

This could be a fun way to engage and introduce the poetry unit or teach parody if you teach students who love rap music. The students could analyze the lyrics and identify different examples of poetic devices. I was challenged by my students to create a parody and this was my example. I thought about the issues I have with my students' sayings, bullying, and dress code. I hope you enjoy. If you purchase this rap, I will email you the instrumental to record your vocals if you'd like. This co

Sambalele is another class favorite! When we sing Sambalele, we act out each part and move our bodies along with the words. Enjoy! This song was recorded by me, Sara bee Garro. History of Sambalele... In order to upload this gem for you, I did some research to uncover the origins of this song. My recording is similar to the Raffi English version, but the original Samba-lele is a Traditional Brazilian song. I highly recommend googling for more. : ) This work is licensed under a Creative Commo

Find Poetry resources | TPT

Learn more about poetry resources

Poetry encourages students to engage with language, explore their thoughts and feelings, and connect with the broader human experience. If you’re a teacher or parent looking for printable and digital poetry resources, look no further. TPT has an extensive collection of resources, created by other teachers, that are designed to help with any need across grade levels.

If you want to make poets out of younger students in elementary grades, then acrostic poems or fill in the blank poems are the perfect place to start. (In fact, many poetry resources on TPT include templates so your students can easily get started producing their own poetry, whether it’s a haiku, or limerick.) For older students in middle and high school, you can find an array of resources to teach them about everything from iambic pentameter, figurative language, to famous poets from history. With plenty of TPT resources at your fingertips, you can sharpen your students’ poetry skills in no time.

Fun and engaging poetry activities to try

Teaching students about poetry can be an engaging and creative experience. Here are a few ideas for poetry activities that you can find on TPT to help you introduce and explore the world of poetry with your students:

Poetic Device Scavenger Hunt

Distribute some poems and have students identify and highlight poetic devices like similes, metaphors, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and imagery. Discuss what these are and the overall impact on the reader's experience.

Poetry Analysis Jigsaw

Divide students into small groups, assigning each group a different poem. Have each group analyze the assigned poem's themes, tone, and literary devices, and present their findings to the class.

Poetry Slam or Performance

Organize a poetry slam where students can perform poems they’ve written themselves or those written by famous poets. This will help build confidence and strengthen their public speaking skills.

Writing Poetry from Different Perspectives

Ask students to write a poem from the perspective of an inanimate object or an animal to foster empathy and encourage creative, out-of-the-box thinking.

Creating Found Poetry

Provide magazines, newspapers, or online articles. Have students cut out interesting words and phrases, and use them to create their own unique poems.

These (and other!) activities can help deepen your students’ appreciation for poetry and enhance their creative writing skills.
