With the new standards and Engage NY/Eureka Math curriculum I have had many concerned/angry parent emails. Math teachers get all the complaints! This Expectations letter helps parents and students understand their role when doing homework. It also has a whole page of online resources that I use with my families. I left it as a publisher file to be fully editable.

It is designed in the Cornell Two Column Note style, however has some specific requirements I feel are important for my classes. What Should I Do Next?
As teachers, we hear the question, "I finished my assignment, what should I do next?" To share with my fellow teachers, I've created a "What Should I Do Next" poster that you can hang on a bulletin board in your classroom. During the beginning of the school year, you may explicitly teach the expectation for what students should do if they complete a task or assignment early. This activity encourages students to review materials for a small number of minutes over several days instead of cramming for a test the night before. IT accumulates "stars", earned by doing varying levels of activities. Percentage of stars earned by the class determines the number of minutes a review game will be played in class. This "getting-to-know-you" activity allows students to create a mini-book about themselves, a topic most students are very comfortable with! The file is Microsoft Publisher and printed in 4 pages, where the students fold the paper to create their mini-book. After students answer the questions, they are encouraged to decorate the cover and create a creative title.
Afterwards, students are given an opportunity to share their books with one another.
