I love using the balanced literacy approach during my literacy block. This 49 page bug unit has five days worth of literacy work. It makes a really fun unit! Each of the days focuses on a different bug/insect including: bees, ladybugs, worms, spiders, and caterpillarsEach of the 5 lessons in this unit includes: -a read aloud idea-discussion questions and answers that go along with the read-aloud-a poem to use for shared reading -sample community writing idea-three independent student worksheets

This craftivity could be used during reading as a fun way for students to show the main topic/idea of a text using key details! I even included the nose, eyes and mouth for less creatively inclined students who don't want to draw the face of their snowman. You can change it to really be appropriate for any indicator or level.
