Ah, Summer! This is a Summer sorting activity for the Smart Board™. It is suitable for primary grades (Pre-K, Kindergarten and First Grade, mostly). How I Teach Trigonometry Ratios Part 1
This is a 25 page Smartboard file explaining how to establish the ratios needed to do basic trigonometry. The lesson starts out giving definitions for hypotenuse, opposite, and adjacent. Next comes the words sine, cosine, and tangent along with a mnemonic to help remember the ratios. There is plenty of practice choosing which ratio you have and all practice pages include answers.

Choosing the Correct Trig Tool - "Whose Law is it Anyway?"
This gameshow style activity provides great practice for students to recognize the criteria necessitating each trigonometry tool (right and oblique). Students are shown a triangle with some sides and angles given, and they must either:
1) Decide what the most appropriate trig tool would be to determine the unknown (side or angle), or conclude that there is not enough information given to solve it. Or,

This mini lesson focuses on the relationship between the sine and cosine of complementary angles in a right triangle. Allows students to walk through the steps of labeling the sides of the triangle, as well as finding the sine and cosine on a calculator and rounding.

How I Teach Trigonometry Ratios Part 2
This is a 50 page Smartboard lesson that builds on my part 1 lesson. The lesson starts by explaining the words Sine, Cosine, and Tangent. Solving Right Triangle Activity
If a student steals a cookie...
Directions: Place students into 5 - 6 groups. In case you want, I included a random group generator into the SMART file for you. Students solve the problems on a whiteboard/paper. If the team gets it right, send one person from the group up to the board to pop open a box to see what they get...but be careful! There are many game changers in there just for you...and them! The GRAY X's help you keep track of which "cookie jars" you have answers.

It's a Firefly Night with Time Signatures!
Students will delight in "catching" fireflies and putting them into the collection jars - but watch out as the number of firefly beats must match the collection jar time signature!
Be sure to let them go after collecting them as you reset the page for the next firefly collector to begin.

Triangles SmartBoard
A smartboard lesson that reviews angles and discusses the ways we classify triangles (by their sides and angles). It has built-in partner discussion and hints to aid discussion. It discusses acute, obtuse, right, scalene, isosceles, and equilateral triangles.
The last slide refers to a triangle sort (available on the VA Dept. of Education website) and a challenge worksheet (available for free at my store!)

Introduction to Basic Trigonometry Activities for the Smart Board
Students are much more successful with solving basic introductory trigonometry problems when they spend time learning opposite, adjacent, and hypotenuse and learning how to decide what trigonometric ratio to use when. This SMART Board notebook activity provides students the opportunity to practice this vocabulary. It also provides a 'pull tab' with answers. The activity ends with a little trigonometry comic relief.

Giza Pyramid introduction to Volumes of Pyramids
Students approximate the volume of The Great Pyramid of Giza by calculating the volume of each layer. This requires finding the angle of elevation then using similar right triangles to approximate the width of each step so they can find the width of each layer.
