Running Race: Open Ended Fraction Question
This fraction open ended question was created to go with the third grade GO Math Chapter 8: Understand Fractions. The activity helps students practice the fraction standard 3.NF.A.2.
The task requires students to set up a number line that represents a mile long race that is cut in 8 laps. 1 lap = 1/8 of a mile, 8 laps = 1 mile. After setting up the number line students place four runners anywhere they want in the race (as long as no two runners are in the same place.)
