First Grade Phonics: Onset and Rime
Use this smartboard file to teach your students about hearing onset and rime in words. Start with the concept that words all have a beginning sounds. Progress to identifying the beginning sound in single syllable words. Each picture includes elkonin boxes so students can tap out the sounds they hear in the words. Next roll a consonant dice to practice blending onset and rime. Finish by changing the onset to create a new word.

Bickle Bockle- Initial Sound/Onset Smartboard Activity-
Great for kindergarten students or as a review for first-grade students. This is a fun, no-prep, "download it and go" Smart Board Activity. Students learn the simple song called "Bickle Bockle" (a recording of the song is included in the activity) and then play around with the first letter of the words to make up silly words for the song.
