Conflict Breakdown - dissecting conflict in any story
This is a SmartBoard lesson I sometimes use with my students (especially lower level ones) to help them understand some of the different elements that make up a conflict.
This can be used with any short story or novel. Works best if done soon after the conflict has been established in the story but before it has been resolved.

A great graphic organizer for students of all grades levels to complete after reading the first chapter, scene, or act of a novel or play. This can be completed individually, in pairs, or in small groups.
Students will record their findings about conflict, character, and setting, and will evaluate the first chapter's, scene's, or act's overall effectiveness by recording how interest has been created (e.g. major events and questions they have about what will happen next).

This is an ActivInspire presentation of notes for the eight elements of fiction and the five parts of a story's plot, each using graphic organizers.
