Summary Reading Log to support the Step Up to Writing Technique
This reading log is designed to support summary writing using four steps demonstrated in the Step Up to Writing program.
Step One: In the first box students are to identify the subject they are summarizing.
Step Two: In the second box students should select a T.E.D. verb. The T.E.D. verbs are tells, explains, or describes.
Step Three: In the third box students finish their thought about the book or chapter they read.
Step Four: Students rewrite their summary sentence

Character Traits Graphic Organizer
This is used in my classroom for students to compare two characters from the book Freak the Mighty. Throughout reading the book, students fill in character traits that stand out and evidence from the text that led them to that/those particular trait(s).
Students collect a running record of the characters' traits throughout to book to see how the character changes throughout the plot. This graphic organizer lends itself well to RL6.3.

Reading Log (Monthly)
This is a monthly reading log intended to be used for homework. Students can record their book title, author and three words they learned while reading. The name, month, instructions, days of the week and date are all editable for your convenience.

Inference Log
My class uses this in their interactive notebooks. We get a new chart for every lengthy piece of literature that we cover. This really helps students explictly see how to make inferences. They also use this chart to help with short writes and essays that involve these texts. Make sure to print landscape orientation to fit all on one page.
