"Barbness": Discussion and Reflection for Barbie/The Awakening
This is the final step in my unit on The Awakening and Barbie (see my bundle for all of the pieces!). Students are asked to prepare for a student-led discussion (I refer to Harkness as that is the name my students know, but this could work with socratic seminar or any type of student-led discussion) on their reading of The Awakening, their viewing of Barbie, and their research on feminism and feminist theory. The Awakening/Barbie: Feminist Theory Presentations Project
Students are asked to research the "waves" of feminism (links for research provided in project) and complete a presentation on their assigned "wave." Each group is given a challenge read (a more complex work) - this could be tweaked to allow for differentiation. This project is meant to be paired with my introduction to The Awakening and the "Barbness" discussion and reflection assignment (see my bundle).
