I use this as a practice assessment toward the end of the year. At this point, my students have already learned how to write an opinion paragraph. I give them the assessment TCAP-Style. I read the passage and the prompt aloud, give them about 5-8 minutes to plan on blank paper, then have them write their response on lined paper that resembles the TCAP for 25 minutes.
