Pumpkin Glyph Detective
Students make their glyph based on their own personal experiences. Students write their names VERY small in the middle of their pumpkin and paste the small version of directions on top of their name. Next pass out the pumpkins randomly to the students. Using the "Detective" sheet (that you have pre-typed their names on) students must use the process of elimination to figure out whose pumpkin they have. Great logical thinking activity with a fun craft!

In this project, students do a typical research report on a person who contributed to black history. The catch is, there are several people who are off limits for picking. The kids groad everytime they see the list of "off limits" people, but every year we get some really interesting reports about lesser known people.

Grocery Shopping Experience
I use this document before Thanksgiving for my students to plan a Thanksgiving meal on a budget. I collect grocery ads beforehand, and students have to "shop" and write down items and cost on their shopping list using the ads. They add up all the items to see if they came in over or under their budget! They love this activity every year!!
