Volume by Cross Sections Project

This is a poster project whereby students create 3-dimensional models of physical objects by using cross sections. Students determine what functions to use for their base regions and the cross sections. They use a spreadsheet to calculate the Riemann sum for their objects and compare their calculations to their integral values. Students have a lot of fun with this project and they get very creative. I recommend that you allow at least 3 weeks for the project and require them to submit their

Rollercoaster Project

The Rollercoaster project is interactive and hands-on to assess the student's knowledge of polynomials and slopes. Students work in groups of 3-4 and will complete the assignment in roughly a week. Teachers can alter the amount of time needed for completion. Student's have their own roles and room for creativity. This would work as a great quarter project for a review of turning points, end behaviors, and writing polynomial functions.

CN171-11 STEM
This is the course end project for MCV4U, calculus and vectors. The instruction, student guide (with some help and examples), teacher's sample solution is included in the zip, along with a Desmos link to check various students answer. It is even good to use for an asynchronous online class. Students are asked to design a water-skiing activity in an amusement park. They need to create a parabolic path (They come up with their own equation.) for the motorboat leading ride. Then the rider will let
