Making Healthy Food Choices
In 2011, the USDA and First Lady Michelle Obama released the new food icon which replaced the food pyramid. This interactive smartboard lesson teaches children to identify fruits, vegetables, grains, protein and dairy. It encourages them to have fun with healthy food choices. The lesson includes games and opportunities for cooperative learning.

A fun way to introduce yourself at the beginning of the year! When students answer questions correctly they can move a door to see their prize of $100, $300, gold, or zonk! I add a few fun bonus personal questions (dog names, favorite college, etc.).

Feelings Scenarios Whack a Mole! Throw a ball at your smartboard!
How cool!? Throwing a koosh ball at the smartboard! My kids LOVE it! When the different scenarios came up I had kids share ideas (or made a game of it, having them write down answers as a group) about each situation. They stated the way it would make them feel and different options about how to handle it. Because this lesson is centered around emotions, there may be many different ideas, feelings, and answers. Great for the first week of school!
