After teaching for 15 years, sometimes I feel like.... what haven’t I taught? I’ve taught all over, and I’m so grateful for that. I feel like I’ve learned more from my students than I could have ever taught them.
Whether I was teaching parenting skills in Family and Consumer Sciences classes to my teenagers at Little Rock Central High School, math to 5th and 6th graders on the island of St. Maarten, or the love of reading to wide-eyed kindergarteners, my classes have always been discussion-based. Once I learned how to prepare students to discuss like I wasn’t even in the room, I would literally step out of my classroom so I could peek in to watch the magic happen.
