MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style is a visual, hands on approach. I am absolutely sold out on fine motor skill development via instruments at the elementary level. My husband and I have a non-profit. We want to bring special needs music programs to schools! Check us out at opendoorsmusic.org

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

In 2011, I received the date grant award for the improvement of my 7th grade band students state test scores. Learning and studying an instrument is what improved their scores, not after school tutoring! With this in mind, when I moved to elementary music I looked for a way to put an instrument in every child's hand, because band and orchestra only reaches a few select students. The ukulele was the obvious choice. Students love learning the ukulele and can relate to it because most music they hear and see on youtube uses guitars. My educational efforts were recognized in 2013 by the area chamber of commerce for promoting education in my community. My classroom was featured on local television because of the work I have done at my school in teaching and promoting the ukulele.
