TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am entering my 20th year of teaching middle school music! I have primarily taught 6th-8th grade band and the last several years have also been teaching General Music for 7th and 8th graders. In addition to my teaching position, the last six years I have also served as the K-12 Music Curriculum Facilitator for the Cedar Rapids Community School District in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In that role, I oversee curriculum development, professional development, district music budgets, and community partnerships. It's a lot, but I love it- especially writing curriculum!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am passionate about reaching all students and constantly examining equity in our systems. I grew up as a free-lunch student and it has been my life's work to increase access and opportunity to those who may not be afforded that on their own. I am a tough-love teacher for sure, but have somehow managed to retain my enthusiasm over the years and great rapport with my students!
