TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Hey, my name is Amie Bentley and I'm a 20-year veteran visual arts teacher in the great state of New Jersey. I have taught grades kindergarten through 8th grade for most of my teaching career, with a short couple stints in pre-k.

My true passion is working with 6th, 7th, and 8th graders to create portfolios to gain acceptance into a visual and performing arts high school program here in NJ.

My students work to develop their skills and love of art during their 6th grade year in a class I call, "Studio Art." Then, their 7th and 8th grade years are solely dedicated to developing a vision and a voice for themselves as they build their portfolio.

Meanwhile, my elementary-aged artists are picking up many important art skills and techniques along the way.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style has always been quite hybrid depending on the lesson and the students I'm teaching.

Sometimes I'm facilitating, other times I'm demonstrating or delegating. I believe teachers should be flexible in their teaching style to accommodate the needs of their students.
