Patriotic and American songs for the 20 note handbells. This book has the melody line for 16 well-known patriotic/folk songs of the United States of America. Great resource for end of the year production, President's Day, Independence Day, or Veterans Day. There are 3 military songs included as well. This would be a good unit to teach some history as well. Students could look up or learn about the history of the songs. For instance, it would be beneficial to teach the students that there are multiple verses to the Star-Spangled Banner. Did they know that it is a long poem and the verse we sing ends in a question mark? Streets of Laredo (Cowboys Lament) would accompany a theme on the Old West very well. It is such a beautiful, sad song, but a part of our history. Red River Valley and Shenendoah are beautiful songs that make us think about how difficult it was for early settlers to leave their homes and head to the unknown "west."

I grew up with a Father who would play many of these songs (and more) on the guitar while we sat around singing them. My husband served in the military for several years and am grateful for that opportunity! I love this country and am proud of the men and women who have and do serve. Many children today do not learn some of these songs from our country and thought this book would be another way for them to learn and enjoy them.
