Description

These Zoo themed Elkonin sound boxes are an engaging activity to develop phonemic awareness and phonics skills. It includes 40 task cards for students to segment, blend, and spell cvc words.

The task cards are perfect to use with small intervention groups to assist readers in developing their early literacy skills, while improving encoding abilities, and building their confidence in reading words.

Students will:

  1. Say the name of the picture.
  2. Segment the words into sounds by tapping one box for each sound.
  3. Place a manipulative in a box for each sound they hear.
  4. Use the letter tiles to match each sound.

This literacy center includes 40 CVC spelling cards:

  • 8 for Short A: bat, can, car, nap, mat, ham, mad, bag
  • 8 for Short E: bed, den, hen, jet, leg, men, vet, web
  • 8 for Short I: bib, bin, dip, fin, pig, mix, zip, pin
  • 8 for Short O: top, box, pot, fox, mop, log, cot, fog
  • 8 for Short U: cut, cup, sun, gum, rug, jug, bus, sub
  • 6 enrichment worksheets

Children will use letter tiles, magnets or erasable markers to spell each word.
