Description

This lesson is designed as a collaborative, team building activity meant for advanced middle school, as well as high school courses, ranging from English and Mythology to Government and Environmental Studies. The lesson is based meant to be a fun project for students, while also being an academic challenge that emphasizes creative problem solving and teamwork, as well as teaching students about a real government document that hypothesizes possible (and even verified) zombie situations.

The government document worth referencing for this article is called “Conplan 8888,” which is described is surprisingly not made as a joke, but as an emergency response training tool. The assignment models Conplan 8888 by using the actual possible zombie scenarios detail in the document, as well as the response plan order laid out in the assignment sheets. For each type of zombie apocalypse, the attached worksheets provide a description of the event straight from Conplan 8888, which is in some cases vague, and thus requires student creativity in envisioning and responding to the potential crisis.

This assignment contains seven types of zombie emergencies, but for each of them, students are asked to follow the same multi-step response plan, and devise possible solutions.
