Description

Zebra on the Loose! FUN Informative Writing Activity for Common Core Grades 4-8

Spice up informative writing with this FUN and different lesson!

A zebra on the loose in the city? That's not something you see everyday! Read a reporter's interviews (primary sources!) of four people involved in this outrageous incident:

- the kid who took the cell phone video of the zebra running through the city that went viral

- the zebra's owner who accidentally let him get away (is that LEGAL?)

- the lady who hit the zebra with her car

- the veterinarian who treated the zebra

The students will read all 4 witness accounts and become newspaper reporters. They will have to weed through the extra information to find the most important and relevant facts that should be included. Then, they'll write an informative newspaper article!

Students can design a social media post or text thread to promote their article!

My students like these because they can practice good writing WITHOUT having to research OR think up stuff to say.

Thanks for downloading! Be sure to follow my store and blog for more ELA freebies for middle grades!
