Having taught a high school yearbook for several years, I’ve come across some practices and strategies that I want to share with other advisors. These simple things have saved me hours in editing time on the back end of the project.
This EDITABLE 2-page design guide is perhaps the most essential tool that I use in my yearbook class. My students have a printed copy sitting by their computers every day, and it is a LIFESAVER. This design guide outlines everything we need to create a consistent and cohesive yearbook: font choices, font sizes, spacing between photos, line widths, external margin sizes, and so on. Obviously this will need to be edited for your own class and specific software, but hopefully it will serve as a good starting point!
I've also included 3 EDITABLE yearbook spread rubrics I use in my class. Two are simple checklist rubrics for peer editing, and the other rubric is a much more detailed one that I use to grade students' spreads on photography, captions, AP Style, design, theme development, etc.!
