Description

This fifteen slide PowerPoint presentation is designed to give student writers an overview of the basic components of academic essay writing. It asserts that the essay itself is a type of puzzle, and its three main pieces are the introductory paragraph, the body paragraphs, and the conclusion. This presentation helps students learn how to write and fit these puzzle pieces together. Through it, students will learn information about each puzzle piece to help them write better.

The presentation discusses the following:

★The Introduction Paragraph

-The "hook"

-Providing context

-Thesis Statement

★Body Paragraphs: "TEEC"

-Topic Sentences

-Evidence

-Explanation

-Concluding Sentences

★The Conclusion Paragraph

-Rephrased thesis statement

-Recap of main points

-Lasting thought

This is a useful presentation that will help your students learn the basics of writing the academic essay. I have used this to introduce essay writing to my English II students, but I have also found it serves as a good review of fundamentals for older students as well.
