Description

Even if you have students who profess they "hate to write," they'll love writing their own personal memoir.

In this set of eight SMART lessons, students will work in small groups, pairs, and individually as they learn what a memoir is, what makes a great memoir, how to plan a memoir, and how to write their own memoir.

You'll start off with writing a Six-Word Memoir and end the series of lessons with writing a memoir of a life event. Each lesson has an organizer, a video, and/or some type of active learning. There are plenty of examples and a rubric with which to score the final writing assignment.

Throughout the lessons, students will concentrate on Ideas & Content and Voice (6 Traits of Writing).

I've used these lessons to start off our writing for the last few years, and my students love it. It sets the tone for a fun year of writing!
