What educators are saying

Having the ground work laid out for students in their writing has been a game changer. Our curriculum does not do that and assumes all students come in at the same level. I was able to use this to help guide and push each student where they needed it.

Description

In this independent writing project, students will:

-draft, revise, and edit a realistic fiction story

-develop a main character

-develop a simple plot

-integrate sensory images into the story for setting

-use dialogue that moves the story forward

-write and illustrate a final copy for an audience

Teacher Notes:

Although this is an independent writing project, you will will need to teach and model the elements of a realistic fiction story.

Included in this packet:

-student instructions

-grading rubric (quality of writing, revision, conventions, and participation)

-Story Storm: Realistic Fiction Story Ideas brainstorming think sheet

-Building a Character think sheets

-Plotting a Story think sheets

-drafting paper

-Beta Reader (peer critique) feedback form

-Revision & Editing checklist

-final copy writing and illustration booklet
